Rancho Cucamonga Quakes News Release
San Bernardino, CA - The Rancho Cucamonga Quakes fought off the Inland Empire 66ers' comeback bid on Saturday night, en route to a 7-4 victory.
Coming off a completed comeback win on Friday night, the Quakes (36-24) used a few crooked numbers, sandwiched in between four unanswered runs from the 66ers (24-37), to grab their second consecutive win at San Manuel Stadium.
Jeter Downs proved his recent All-Star selection with a 4 RBI night for Rancho. Downs highlighted a four-run top of the third with a three-run home run to deep left field, his 10th blast of 2019. He would add his fourth and final RBI in a three-run top of the sixth, with a single that plated Jordan Procyshen.
In between the Quakes' four-run second frame and three-run sixth frame, the 66ers dropped a three-spot of their own in the third and pushed across a single run in the fifth to tie the game at 4-4. However, the aforementioned four unanswered runs did not hold.
A couple of All-Stars began the night on the mound for both sides, but did not factor into the decision. 66ers' SP Kyle Bradish lasted just 1.1 innings, allowing four earned runs. Quakes' SP Wills Montgomerie battled through 4.1 innings, issuing six free passes with four earned runs of his own.
The win in Saturday night's tilt went to Austin Hamilton (2-1), as he shined through 2.2 innings with five punchouts and no hits. The loss fell on the shoulders of Oliver Ortega (2-3), who tossed five innings of long relief, surrendering three earned runs.
Sven Schueller notched his first save of the season, topping off 4.2 strong innings from the Rancho bullpen with two innings of scoreless baseball.
With a Lake Elsinore win over Lancaster by a final score of 3-2 at The Diamond on Saturday night, the Quakes' magic number over the Storm is four, while their magic number dropped to two on the JetHawks.
On Wednesday, June 12th, the Quakes welcome the Lake Elsinore Storm to town for the final five games of first-half play. Terra Vista Animal Hospital presents Bark in the Ballpark at LoanMart Field, as all four-legged companions are welcomed at the friendly confines.
