Rancho Cucamonga Quakes News Release

Rancho Cucamonga, CA- After two scoreless innings, the Lake Elsinore Storm plated the game's first run. After Brad Chalk doubled with one out against Quakes starter Jayson Miller, Sawyer Carroll came up with two outs and singled up the middle to score Chalk and give the Storm a 1-0 lead.

The Quakes threatened in the bottom of the 4th by getting runners on first and second with two outs. Hector Estrella came up and singled up the middle, but Efren Navarro was thrown out at the plate to end the inning.

Jayson Miller threw 95 pitches in the first five innings and could not start the 6th. He gave up just one run on six hits and struck out four.

The Quakes offense got into a groove in the bottom of the 6th as Rancho loaded the bases with a walk, a single, and another walk. Storm starter Jeremy Hefner then uncorked a wild pitch allowing Andrew Romine to score the tying run 1-1. After a walk to Julio Perez to load the bases again, Hefner was lifted from the game for reliever Nick Vincent. Jay Brossman was the first batter he faced and Brossman singled through the left side scoring two, to give the Quakes a 3-1 lead. With runners on second and third, Hector Estrella doubled off the right field wall to swell the lead to 5-1. With two outs and runners on the corners after a Clay Fuller walk, Estrella scored on a missed catch on a pick off throw at first base to make the score 6-1.

Three Quakes relievers, Steven Geltz, Taylor Wilding and Michael Kohn, pitched the final four innings allowing just one hit and walking two batters to preserve the 6-1 victory.

The Quakes will continue their homestand with game three of the four game series against Lake Elsinore on Sunday. Right hander Jeremy Thorne will start for the Quakes against left hander Nick Schmidt. Game time is scheduled for 5:05pm.
