Inland Empire 66ers News Release

RANCHO CUCAMONGA, CA - The Rancho Cucamonga Quakes scored three in the seventh and four in the eight to capture a 13-9 win over the Inland Empire 66ers in a sloppy game at the Epicenter on Friday night.

The game featured six errors (four from the 66ers and two from the Quakes) as the teams traded moments of futility in the field and on the base paths.

After the 66ers took a 7-6 lead with two runs in their half of the seventh inning, the Quakes responded with a three-run bottom half. Jeremy Moore keyed the rally with a two-run single to right that brought in Matt Sweeney and Julio Perez.

The Sixers tied the game at nine apiece with two in the eighth. Alex Garabedian singled in Scott Van Slyke and scored on a botched pickoff attempt of Trayvon Robinson that resulted in a throwing error from second baseman P.J. Phillips.

With the game locked in a 9-9 tie, the Quakes ended the sea-saw affair with a four-run eighth. Perez delivered the decisive blow, a two-run double to center off 66ers reliever David Pfieffer.

Preston Mattingly led all Sixers with a 4-for-5 night and scored three runs. Trayvon Robinson went 3-for-5 with a double and two runs while Pedro Baez chipped in with a 3-for-3 performance. Scott Van Slyke added two hits, two RBIs, a run and a diving catch in right field in the seventh.

RHP Chris Withrow struggled with command and allowed six runs (five earned) on four hits in four innings. He walked three and struck out five.

Pfeiffer (0-2) took the loss, permitting four runs (2 earned) on four hits in one inning. Rancho Cucamonga starter Robert Fish lasted six innings, allowing five runs on eight hits while walking two and striking out seven.

The series continues at 7:05 p.m. Saturday with RHP Tim Sexton (1-0, 1.80) toeing the slab for the 66ers and Esmerlin Jimenez (0-0, 43.20) taking the ball for the Quakes. The Sixers will return to Arrowhead Credit Union Park on Monday, April 20 to face the JetHawks at 7:05 PM. Monday is the first Kid's Eat Free Monday sponsored by San Bernardino County where fans will receive a voucher for a hot dog, soda and chips with the purchase of a child's ticket (12 and under).
