Rancho Cucamonga Quakes News Release

Rancho Cucamonga, CA- Inland Empire did not waste any time getting on the scoreboard Friday night against Quakes' starter Robert Fish as they plated two runs on an RBI single by Pedro Baez, and scored on a wild pitch to lead 2-0.

The Quakes had an answer though as Clay Fuller walked to lead off the inning and with one out Matt Sweeney blasted a two-run home run to left-center to tie the game 2-2.

Rancho took the lead with three runs in the 2nd inning highlighted by an Anthony Norman RBI triple, an Alberto Rosario RBI ground out and after Fuller was hit by a pitch and stole second base, Andrew Romine singled to center to make the score 5-2.

The 66ers came back to tie the game in the 3rd against Fish as Preston Mattingly singled and Eduardo Perez and Tommy Giles followed with walks to load the bases. Pedro Baez delivered an RBI single and with two outs, Scott Van Slyke singled to score two more to tie the score 5-5.

The Quakes came back again in the bottom of the 3rd. Julio Perez led off the inning with a walk and Efren Navarro followed with an RBI double into the left field corner to give Rancho a 6-5 lead.

Fish left the game after the 6th with a 6-5 lead, and reliever Jeremy Haynes quickly gave up the lead. Trayvon Robinson led off with a single and Mattingly followed with a single and each moved up a base on a passed ball. Both runners advanced a base, Robinson scoring, on an Eduardo Perez sacrifice fly to tie the game 6-6. Then Haynes uncorked a wild pitch to score Mattingly to give Inland Empire a 7-6 lead.

The Quakes answered in the seventh with three more runs on a bases loaded two-run single by Jeremy Moore and a balk called on reliever Luis Vasquez to give Rancho a 9-7 lead going to the 8th.

With Haynes still in the game, the 66ers scored two runs to tie after Van Slyke singled to right and PJ Phillips kicked the ball into the right field bullpen to put a runner at third and Alex Garabedian followed with an RBI single to bring the score to 9-8. After a sacrifice bunt, Robinson singled to put runners on the corners. Ryan Brasier came in the game for Haynes and had picked off Robinson and got him in a run down between first and second before Garabedian broke for home and Phillips threw the ball away for his second error of the game and allowed the tying run to score.

The Quakes then plated four in the 8th with one out as Clay Fuller singled, went to second on a wild pitch and to third on an Andrew Romine base hit. With runners on the corners, Matt Sweeney hit a ground ball to first, Fuller broke for home and Perez threw wildly to the plate allowing the go-ahead run to score. Julio Perez then doubled to left center to score Romine and Sweeney to grab a 12-9 lead. Perez stole third and would score on the fourth Inland Empire error as Garabedian threw the ball into left field for the eventual 13th Quakes run.

Ryan Brasier allowed a walk in the 9th, but shut the door to secure the Quakes second straight win.

The Quakes will host Inland Empire for game three of the four game series on Saturday night. Esmerlin Jimenez will get the ball against right hander Tim Sexton of the 66ers. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05pm.
