Quakes Split Four-Game Set With Storm

Rancho Cucamonga, CA- After a scoreless first inning, the Lake Elsinore Storm broke the tie as Danny Payne hit a solo home run off of Quakes starter Tim Schoeninger to lead off the 2nd inning and make the score 1-0.

The Quakes would answer though in the bottom of the 2nd as Clay Fuller and Carlos Colmenares had back to back one out singles before Brian Walker hit a sacrifice fly to drive in Fuller to tie it up 1-1.

Rancho took the lead in the 3rd as they loaded the bases on an Andrew Romine single, a Jeremy Moore walk and an Efren Navarro hit by pitch with two outs. Clay Fuller then came up and blasted a double off the left field wall scoring all three runners giving the Quakes a 4-1 lead.

The Quakes added a run in the 4th inning as Brian Walker doubled to lead off the inning and scored on a two out RBI single by Andrew Romine to lead 5-1.

The Storm would come back with a run in the 5th against reliever Jeremy Haynes as he loaded the bases with two walks and a hit batter before walking in a run, to make the score 5-2. Taylor Wilding came in with the bases loaded and two outs and retired the side on a ground out.

Lake Elsinore plated another run in the 6th against Wilding as Brad Chalk tripled to right and scored on a Beamer Weems RBI ground out to make the score 5-3.

The Storm would regain the lead in the 7th against Wilding and reliever Eddie McKiernan. Keoni Ruth led off the inning with a double and with one out, Danny Payne singled and Felix Carrasco singled to drive in a run and put runners on the corners; and chase Wilding from the game. McKiernan then allowed back to back RBI singles by Andy Parrino and pinch hitter Logan Forsythe to take a 6-5 lead.

In the bottom of the 8th, the Quakes got a lead off double from Efren Navarro but Clay Fuller and Carlos Colmenares followed with strike outs. Hector Estrella then pinch hit and singled into left, allowing Navarro to score to tie the game 6-6.

Eddie McKiernan went out for the 9th and gave up a lead off base hit to Felix Carrasco, but Andy Parrino laid down a poor bunt and Carrasco was forced at second base. Logan Forsythe then grounded a possible double play ball to short, but Andrew Romine booted the ball and didn't get an out. Brad Chalk followed with an RBI double to give the Storm the lead 7-6. Ysmael Carmona then came in relief and struck out a batter before hitting Scott Hairston and allowing a grand slam to Ali Solis to put the game out of reach 11-6.

The Quakes will take a three day all-star break and get back to work on Thursday in Lancaster. The Quakes will send left hander Robert Fish to the mound against a pitcher to be determined. Game time is scheduled for 7:00pm.
