Lancaster JetHawks News Release
(LANCASTER, CA) - The JetHawks have been one of the few teams in the California League this season to have success against the Modesto bullpen, but Saturday night it was the Nuts turn to have some success. Three Modesto relievers combined to hurl a perfect four and 2/3 innings against the red hot JetHawks offense in a 7-3 Nuts win. The loss snaps the JetHawks win streak at three, although they have still won 12 of their last 21 games.
Like the other two games in the series, the JetHawks scored first. With two outs in the third inning, Craig Corrado and J.B. Shuck put together back-to-back doubles to take a 1-0 lead. The lead jumped to 3-1 in the fourth inning when Brandon Barnes hit a two-run homer, his first since joining the club.
Lancaster starter Chad Wagler turned in a strong three shutout innings before Modesto tallied three in the bottom of the fourth to tie the game. Wagler notched his second quality start of the season, guiding the JetHawks through six innings while only giving up the three runs, but left with the game tied.
The Nuts bounced back against the JetHawks bullpen, scoring once in the seventh inning to take their first lead of the series, then three more times in the eighth to pull away. The Modesto bullpen sent out three relievers, each of whom held the JetHawks without a base runner to help the Nuts to the win.
The JetHawks look to close out the first half with a win Sunday afternoon against the Nuts. Chris Hicks (5-4) will pitch for Lancaster against Modesto hurler Cory Riordan (3-5). The game will begin at 1:05 with the Pre-Game Show kicking of the radio broadcast at 12:55 on Magic 1340 AM and online at JetHawks.com.
The JetHawks return home to open the second half of the season with a three-game series against the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes beginning Thursday, June 25.
