Rancho Cucamonga Quakes News Release

Rancho Cucamonga, CA - The First Half North Division Champion Bakersfield Blaze invaded The Epicenter on Thursday night and showed why they own the Cal League's best mark, hammering the Quakes by a final score of 12-2.

Tucker Barnhart went 5-for-5 and led Bakersfield's 18-hit assault on the Quakes' pitching staff, while Billy Hamilton went 4-for-5 with three RBIs and two stolen bases, adding to his nation-leading total of 82 in 67 games.

The offensive fireworks didn't stop there, as Steve Selsky, making his Blaze debut, homered on each of the first two pitches he saw, giving the Blaze two of their four homers on the night.

Quakes' starter Zach Lee (2-3) got roughed up a bit in his first second-half start, as he allowed four runs (three earned) on five hits over just three scheduled innings, suffering the loss.

Blaze starter Josh Smith (6-4) was solid, holding Rancho to two runs on eight hits over 6 2/3 innings, picking up the win.

The Quakes got three hits and an RBI from Jonathan Garcia, while Leon Landry had a pair of knocks and drove in a run as well.

Rancho (37-34) will look to bounce back and notch their first win of the second half on Friday, as they send Brandon Martinez (1-1) to the mound. The Blaze will counter with Jamie Walczak (2-1).

The Quakes are home through Sunday as part of this four-game home stand. Friday is another Family RV $1 Family Feast Night, with hot dogs, Pepsi products and ice cream sandwiches all just $1 throughout the night. Game time is 7:05pm and gates open at 6:05pm. Due to a problem with the phone lines at The Epicenter, tickets may not be available over the phone on Friday. Tickets are definitely available online at rcquakes.com and in person at The Epicenter Ticket Office. We apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your patience. Go Quakes!
