Lake Elsinore - 13 batters, 10 runs on six hits and an error. The Storm proved baseball is a game of numbers tonight as the rattled off those numbers in the bottom of the seventh after already being up 4-0 against the Lancaster JetHawks. The game finally came to a close with a 14-1 win for the Storm who regain first place in the South Division now tied with High Desert to begin the second half.
The tone was set tonight when pitcher and local product Matt Andriese stepped onto the mound to collect his fifth win of the season.
Andriese was lights out in five innings allowing a season low one hit allowed and mowed down an season high eight strikeouts facing 17 batters on the night.
In the month of June, Andriese has managed to go 2-0 in four starts with a 1.29 ERA for the month.
But the bats were alive as the Storm has now won eight of its last 10 games at The Diamond.
Three runs were scored in the second when Tommy Medica doubled to lead off, newcomer Casey McElroy walked and Connor Powers hit a high fly ball that caught the wind and sailed over the left field wall for a three RBI home run.
McElroy mad quite an impressive Cal League debut after hitting a home run of his own in the sixth over the 37-foot wall in right field that traveled 376 ft. McElroy went 2-for-3 on the night and scored three runs giving the Storm a 4-0 lead.
The seventh was the inning that rolled for the home team. Everett Williams, Rymer Liriano and Powers each scored multiple RBI for the Storm in the inning that rattled off 10 runs.
Both Chris Bisson and Tommy Media continue seven-game hit streaks while Powers collected five RBI on the night.
Storm Outfielder Rymer Liriano was selected to be part of the World team in the Major League Baseball SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game, a game featured in the All-Star Game festivities on Sunday July 8 at 2 p.m. PST and can be viewed on ESPN2, ESPN2 HD and MiLB.TV as well as heard on SiriusXM Channel 89.
