Rancho Cucamonga Quakes News Release

Rancho Cucamonga, CA - Orangel Arenas fired seven innings of one-run ball and Gabe Jacobo had two hits and an RBI, helping the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes knock off the Lancaster JetHawks by a score of 4-2 on Friday night at The Epicenter.

Arenas carried a shutout into the seventh, before Jay Austin took him deep to open the inning, pulling the JetHawks to within three at 4-1.

Quakes' reliever Mike Piazza got touched for a run in the eighth, but settled down to get out of the inning without additional damage. Closer Eddie McKiernan enjoyed no struggles at all, as he struck out the side in the ninth to earn his 26th save of the year.

The Quakes built a 1-0 lead in the first, as Gabe Jacobo, badly struggling in the month of August, doubled home Mike Trout to put the Quakes on the board. Jacobo now has 92 RBIs to lead the Quakes.

Darwin Perez drove in two runs for the second straight game, as his sac fly in the second plated Eric Oliver for a 2-0 lead. Perez struck again in the fourth, picking up his second run of the night with an infield single, scoring Angel Castillo for a 3-0 lead. Trout followed with the Quakes' second sac fly of the night, as his drive to right field scored Dillon Baird, giving the Quakes a 4-0 lead over Lancaster starter Patrick Urckfitz (5-9).

Arenas (7-3) allowed just the one run on two hits over seven innings, earning his seventh win with the Quakes.

With the victory, the Quakes (32-28, 71-59) remain in a first-place tie with the High Desert Mavericks, but extend their lead over Lancaster to three games with just ten to play in the regular season.

The Quakes look for a third straight win on Saturday night, hosting the JetHawks in the second game of the four-game set. Ryan Chaffee (7-7) takes on Leandro Cespedes (2-6) at 7:05pm. Saturday night is another Fireworks Extravaganze, as everyone will enjoy a post-game Fireworks Display thanks to KOLA 99.9. Gates open at 6:05pm and tickets are available by calling (909) 481-5000 or online at rcquakes.com. Go Quakes!
