Rancho Cucamonga Quakes News Release
Rancho Cucamonga, CA- For the second night in a row, the Quakes lost to the High Desert Mavericks dropping Wednesday night's game 3-1. With the loss, the Quakes lose the series to the Mavericks and drop to 3-4 on the season.
The Quakes jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning on an RBI single by Cliff Remole, but that would be the lone Quake run as Mavericks starting pitcher Ricky Orta (2-0) settled down going seven innings, allowing one run on six hits with five strikeouts.
Rancho maintained a 1-0 lead until the top of the eighth inning with solid pitching from starter Jose Perez and Kelly Shearer until the Mavericks got on the board with three runs. Johan Limonta lead off the inning with a single off of Shearer and after advancing to second on a wild pitch, Shearer settled down to strike out Carlos Peguero before being lifted for Marco Albano. Chris Minaker reached on an error by P.J. Phillips then Greg Halman brought two runs in with a double to left field. A broken bat, bloop RBI single by Matt Mangini brought the score to 3-1 Mavericks.
The Quakes brought the tying run to the plate in the bottom of the ninth after Remole got on base with double, but Aaron Cotter ended the Quakes threat by striking out Abel Nieves and Brian Walker to end the game. Remole went 2-4 with a double and an RBI and Wil Ortiz also went 2-4 with a double and the lone Quakes run.
Trevor Bell will start on the mound tomorrow for Rancho as the Visalia Oaks come to town for the first of a four game series. Game time is scheduled for 7:05pm.
