THE SAN JOSE GIANTS...open their 2008 home schedule on Thursday night with the first of four straight games against the Bakersfield Blaze. San Jose finished with a 4-3 record on their season-opening seven-game road trip. The Giants swept a four-game series at Bakersfield to begin the year before losing three consecutive games against Modesto earlier this week. San Jose struggled offensively during their series against the Nuts mustering a total of only four runs. Entering Thursday's contest, the Giants have not scored in 26 straight innings. San Jose though does boast a league-leading 2.19 ERA through the first seven games.

Ben Snyder To Start Home Opener...Left-hander Ben Snyder will make the start on the mound during Thursday's home opener versus the Blaze. Snyder, a former fourth round draft pick of the San Francisco Giants, impressed in his California League debut last weekend. The southpaw tossed five scoreless innings at Bakersfield yielding five hits with one walk and three strikeouts, but received a no-decision. San Jose eventually won the game by a 4-3 final score. Last season, Snyder was 16-5 with a 2.09 ERA for the Augusta Greenjackets en route to earning South Atlantic League All-Star honors. Baseball America rated Snyder the #21 prospect in the San Francisco farm system entering the 2008 campaign.

Opening Night Festivities...There are several events at Municipal Stadium scheduled during Thursday's home opener. Festivities include the pre-game championship ring ceremony, raising of the championship flag, magnet schedule giveaway courtesy of AIG, KRTY Country Thursday, the return of Gigante, and a post-game fireworks show presented by State Farm. Gates to Municipal Stadium will open at 5:30 P.M. Box seats and upper reserved seats have already sold out, but general admission tickets are still available.

Bakersfield Blaze...The Blaze, an affiliate of the Texas Rangers, are off to a 3-4 start this season. After getting swept at home by the Giants to begin the year, Bakersfield won three straight at Stockton earlier this week. The Blaze have been led offensively by outfielder Grant Gerrard, who is hitting .360 (9-for-25) with two home runs and six RBI. Outfielder Julio Borbon (.214 AVG) was a first round draft pick of the Rangers last year.
