Rancho Cucamonga Quakes News Release
San Bernardino, CA - The Rancho Cucamonga Quakes blew a three-run lead, but rallied from a late two-run deficit to ultimately defeat Inland Empire in ten innings on Wednesday night, 10-9 at San Manuel Stadium.
An Edwin Mateo sac fly and a throwing error helped Rancho build a two-run advantage in extras, before Reinaldo De Paula locked up his first career-save in a Quakes' uniform to help Rancho get their first win of the seven-game series.
Mateo had a big night, with a couple of hits, including his second homer of the year. His last trip to the plate didn't produce a hit, but a long fly ball to left field scored Jorbit Vivas from third with the go-ahead run, as the Quakes took a 9-8 lead. A throwing error by second baseman Carson Matthews with two outs allowed Alex DeJesus to score, giving Rancho an important insurance run at 10-8.
Inland got one back on a wild pitch by Reinaldo De Paula, but D'Shawn Knowles struck out with the tying run at first to end the game and give Rancho the victory.
Imanol Vargas clubbed a three-run homer for Rancho, his ninth of the year. DeJesus finished with three of Rancho's 11 hits. Marco Hernandez had two hits, including a huge game-tying double in the eighth.
Julian Smith struck out six over 2.2 innings of strong relief to earn the win, while Inland reliever Julio Goff (4-5) got stuck with the loss.
On Thursday, Rancho (48-36) will go with right-hander Carlos Duran (2-2) against 66ers' right-hander John Swanda (4-5) at 7:05pm.
The Quakes will return to LoanMart Field on Tuesday, August 17th, as they host the San Jose Giants in a huge six-game series with playoff implications. Tuesday the 17th will be another Temblores Tuesday, as the Quakes will wear Temblores caps and jerseys, presented by the Art Laboe Show Live. Tickets are available at rcquakes.com.
