Modesto, CA - Isaac Anderson turned in seven strong innings and the bullpen bounced back after a couple of late losses in the last week, as the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes opened their three-game series with a 3-2 win over the Modesto Nuts at John Thurman Field on Friday night.

Logan Landon's first-inning two-run single gave the Quakes an early lead and Anderson never trailed, as he allowed two runs on five hits over seven frames.

Leading 2-0 in the second, Gavin Lux and Nick Yarnall pulled off a double-steal, with Yarnall coming home to give the Quakes a 3-0 lead against Modesto starter Austin Hutchison (1-2).

Anderson gave up a run in the fourth and a solo homer to Luis Liberato in the seventh, as Modesto pulled to within a run at 3-2.

Connor Strain worked around an eighth-inning double, while Nolan Long fired a 1-2-3 ninth to earn his third save.

The Quakes (62-44, 27-9) will send Dustin May (6-3) to the mound at 7:05pm on Saturday night in the second game of the series. Modesto will counter with Ljay Newsome (5-7).
