Rancho Cucamonga Quakes News Release
Stockton, CA - Nick Buss had two of Rancho Cucamonga's five homers, as the Quakes routed the Stockton Ports on Monday night, winning 14-7 at Banner Island Ballpark.
Wilberto Ortiz, Angelo Songco and Jessie Mier also homered, as the Quakes added to their league-leading home run total and snapped a three-game losing streak.
Shut out in the opening game of the series on Sunday, the Quakes posted a five-spot in the first against Stockton starter James Simmons.
Songco's RBI single put Rancho on the board at 1-0. Tony Delmonico followed with a two-run single, making it 3-0. Austin Gallagher and Ortiz each knocked in a run with a two-out hit, as the Quakes built a 5-0 lead.
Quakes' starter Red Patterson didn't have his best stuff on Monday, but did give the Quakes five innings.
Patterson got touched for a pair of runs in the first, including a lead-off home run by Myrio Richard.
Ortiz blasted his first homer of the year in a Quakes' jersey in the third, as the Quakes re-upped the lead to four at 6-2.
Stockton's Petey Paramore touched Patterson for a two-run shot in the third, as Stockton pulled to within two at 6-4.
Simmons (1-2) was replaced by reliever J.J. Leaper in the fourth, who surrendered Songco's team-leading 23rd homer of the year, as the Quakes reclaimed a five-run advantage at 9-4.
Leaper gave up a pair of two-run blasts in the following inning, as Buss took him out to right field, while Mier ripped his first homer as a Quake to center, making it 13-4.
Patterson (3-1) gave up two more runs in the fifth, leaving after five innings with a 13-6 lead.
Buss took Conner Hoehn deep to open the seventh, his second homer of the night and his ninth of the year, making it a 14-6 lead.
Andy Suiter worked three scoreless innings, then turned it over to Logan Bawcom, who worked the ninth. Bawcom would surrender a solo shot to Michael Choice, his league-leading 28th round-tripper of the year, capping the scoring at 14-7.
The Quakes (24-20, 62-52) are now within two games of Lake Elsinore in the South Division Second Half Standings. Rancho will send Andres Santiago (6-3) to the mound on Tuesday night, while Stockton will go with Robert Gilliam (11-5) in the rubber game of the three-game set. Game time is 7:05pm.
On Thursday, August 11th, the Quakes will return to The Epicenter, opening a seven-game home stand. Thursday is another Buffalo Wild Wings Thirsty Thursday. Game time is 7:05pm. Tickets are available by calling (909) 481-5000 or online at rcquakes.com.
