Crabbe, Blaze Get Past Rehabbing Zito, Giants

Bakersfield Blaze News Release
Tim Crabbe went 6 shutout innings, the Bakersfield Blaze tagged Barry Zito for 3 runs on a rehab start, and Bakersfield beat the San Jose Giants in another sweater 4-2 at San Jose Municipal Stadium on Monday night.
The game began very well for Bakersfield, as the first 2 Blaze reached against Barry Zito (L, 2-1). Dayne Read singled to left, stole second, and came home on Ryan La Marre's long single off the left field wall. Two batters later Brodie Greene slugged a mammoth solo homer to left, and before the seats were warm, the Blaze led 2-0.
The score would remain 2-0 until the 6th when, with 2 outs, Devin Lohman doubled to rightcenter, and Jorge Jimenez singled him home. Then, after Crabbe tossed his 6th and final inning, things got interesting. Derrik Lutz had trouble with his control in the 7th, walking 2 and hitting a batter, as the Giants plated 2 runs (1 earned) to cut that Blaze lead to 3-2. Fortunately, though, the Blaze got some insurance in the 9th. Dayne Read slugged his 4th homer with Bakersfield to put the Blaze back up by 2 runs, and Chris Manno pitched the 8th and 9th for his 2nd save of the year.
With the win, the Blaze improve to 56-58 overall, 21-23 in the second half, and remain 3 games back of the Modesto Nuts, who also won. Tomorrow's series finale is another 7:05pm start in San Jose, and the Blaze will give the ball to Matt Fairel looking for the sweep.
