Rancho Cucamonga Quakes News Release

Rancho Cucamonga, CA -- A Michael Pericht walk-off single gave the Quakes' their eighth-straight victory on Monday night and sole possession of first place, defeating the Lancaster JetHawks by a final score of 5-4 at The Epicenter.

With the Quakes down 4-2 in the ninth, JetHawks' closer Jason Chowning struck out Jacobs to begin the inning, but Steve Domecus struck for his first California League hit and was followed by a pinch-hit RBI double by Bobby Coyle to make it a one-run ballgame at 4-3.

Leon Landry followed with an RBI base-knock of his own, Landry's fourth hit of the night, tying the game at 4-4 and chasing Chowning from the game. Kirk Clark entered and was greeted by Joc Pederson, who moved Landry over to third with a base hit. With runners on the corners, the JetHawks elected to walk reigning Cal League Player of the Week and now-All-Star C.J. Retherford to load the bases for Michael Pericht with one out.

Big Mike didn't disappoint.

On a 3-2 pitch, Pericht's bases-loaded single to left field sent Quakes' fans home happy as Rancho now holds sole possession of first place, one game over both High Desert and Lake Elsinore with just five to play in the first half.

Ryan Acosta (1-0) earned his first victory of the year, giving up a hit and striking out one batter in one inning of work in the ninth.

Jason Chowning (0-1) suffered his first loss and blown save of the year, giving up three earned runs on three hits in a third of an inning of work.

The JetHawks' George Springer started off the scoring in the first inning with a one-out solo home run off of Quakes' starter Garrett Gould, but that would be the only run the right-hander would surrender. Gould, who retired 18 of the final 19 hitters he faced, struck out six and walked one while surrendering just two hits over six innings of work.

Cal League All-Star pitcher Bobby Doran surrendered two runs, only one of them earned, on five hits while fanning and walking three over six innings of work.

The Quakes picked up two runs in the fifth, as Leon Landry scored on a bases-loaded walk drawn by Pericht to tie the game at one. A passed ball allowed Pederson to score with Scott Wingo at the plate to give the Quakes the lead.

The JetHawks would come back with a vengeance though, scoring three times in the top of the eighth against Steve Smith, who was charged his first blown save of the year.

Smith gave up three consecutive singles to Jonathan Meyer, Enrique Hernandez and Rene Garcia to start the eighth. He was then relieved by Eric Eadington who allowed the last two of Smith's runs on a two-run single off the bat of Domingo Santana, putting the JetHawks in front at 4-2.

Looking for their ninth straight win, the Quakes (35-30) send Zach Lee (2-2) to the mound on Tuesday evening, as he takes on Lancaster's Tyson Perez (4-1) at 7:05pm.

Tuesday night is another Healthy R.C. Recycle Tuesday, as fans that bring ten CRV-eligible bottles or cans will receive a free club seat to see the second game against the Lancaster JetHawks. Game time is 7:05pm and tickets are available by calling 909-481-5000 or by going online to rcquakes.com. Go Quakes!
