Q & A - Why Did the Buzz Move to Carson?

Maywood Buzz News Release

Q: Why the change to the City of Carson from Orange County?

A: The decision to move the team to Carson were many. The main reason was a purely economic reason. The city of Carson was great hosting us last year when we were not able to establish a permanent home in OC. The fans that came to the game were great. It just made sense to remain in the city.

Q: Did the NBDL have anything to do with the move?

A: Actually it did not, the ball was put into motion before the end of the season. Ironically we move into a complex the Clippers used in the past while they have their D-League team in Orange County now.

Q: If the D-League team could use the Anaheim Convention Center, why couldn't the Buzz?

A: Again it came down to the numbers. We're realistic and we knew to generate the revenue needed to sustain the team maintaining a team at the convention center did not make sense to our bottom line. In the past there has been minor-league professional sports team in Orange County, but its a tough market and sound decisions had to be made for the longevity of the team.

Q: Do you still see a future of the ABA in Orange County?

A: We still do. The D-League team will be playing in Anaheim while the possibility of a ABA team in Orange County will be in Costa Mesa still. Hopefully that can be re-evaluate after the 2006-2007 season. It will be a different team as the former Buzz team will remain in Carson.

Q: Does the move to Carson provide the franchise more stability?

A: Yes it does, having a home for one is a great relief. The veterans sports complex an excellent facility and an excellent staff.

Note: OurSports Central no longer actively covers the American Basketball Association (ABA) as a professional league due in part to its inability to publish and play a schedule and the transitory nature of many of its teams.
