
Purolator, Stamps launch 2013 Tackle Hunger Food Drive on Aug. 8

The Calgary Stampeders are once again pleased to team up with Purolator Inc. to play host to the annual Purolator Tackle Hunger food drive in support of the Calgary Food Bank.
The food drive will be held during the Stampeders' Aug. 9 game against the Saskatchewan Roughriders at McMahon Stadium and fans can take part by bringing non-perishable food items or making cash donations. All proceeds from the food drive will support the Calgary Food Bank.
Media are encouraged to join Stamps running back Jon Cornish, members of the Purolator Tackle Hunger team and the Grey Cup during a visit to the Calgary Food Bank on Thursday, Aug. 8 at 1:30 p.m. to launch the 11th annual edition of the Purolator Tackle Hunger food drive.

When: Thursday, Aug. 8 at 1:30 p.m.

Fans can bring non-perishable food items or cash donations to Purolator volunteers stationed at the stadium gates. In return, fans will have the opportunity to receive a digital photo with the Grey Cup and enter to win a signed Jon Cornish jersey.
Last season, the generosity of Stamps fans resulted in a record total of 131,500 pounds of food being collected for the Calgary Food Bank.
"Time and time again, Stampeders fans have proven they have big hearts and have come through when it comes to supporting the Purolator Tackle Hunger program," said Stampeders president Gordon Norrie. "We know they'll answer the bell again this season in support of the great work done by the Calgary Food Bank."
"This is a tremendous program and I'm so proud to be assiocated with Purolator Tackle Hunger," said Cornish, who is in his second season as the Purolator Tackle Hunger spokesman. "It's so important to remember those in the community who are in need and I thank Stampeders fans for their generosity in the past and in the future."
"Calgary Stampeders fans have shown incredible support for Purolator Tackle Hunger," said James McAra, Chief Executive Officer of the Calgary Food Bank. "Fan support coupled with great organizations that work so hard on and off the field make Calgary a great city. In the past 10 years over 316,000 pounds of food and more than $96,000 has been raised to directly support Calgarians in crisis. We are very fortunate to live in a city where giving is a way of life and community is important. We are proud to partner with Purolator, the Calgary Stampeders and Calgarians who all believe in upholding this tradition."
In addition to the food drive, each time a CFL quarterback gets sacked throughout the 2013 regular season, Purolator will donate the equivalent of the quarterback's weight in food to the CFL hometown's food bank.
