Danville Otterbots News Release

Pulaski, VA-The Pulaski Mariners used two, two run homers in the fourth inning of Wednesday night's contest to beat the Danville Braves, 5-3. The Mariners successfully avoided being swept by the Braves and halted the three game win streak the Braves had been riding.

Pulaski scored their first run of the game in the first inning. Danville starter, Ernesto Silva, gave up a single to Dillon Hazlett with one out in the first. Hazlett quickly stole second base and then was able to advance to third when Nick Ahmed missed a ball thrown by Silva in an attempt to pick Hazlett off. Soon after, Silva threw a wild pitch that allowed Hazlett to cross homeplate and gave the Mariners a 1-0 lead.

In the top of the fourth, Brandon Drury evened up the score with his fourth homerun of the season. So Pulaski used the long ball themselves in the bottom of the inning to take the lead. Efrain Nunez also homered for his fourth time in 2011, a ball over the wall in center field that also scored Jordy Lara. Lara had been plunked by Silva to lead off the inning. A single and one out later, Jose Hernandez launched a ball to left field for Pulaski's second homerun of the inning. The two run homer gave Pulaski a 5-1 lead and all the insurance they would need to win.

In the top of the sixth inning, Nick Ahmed sent another Dylan Unsworth pitch over the fence. The solo homerun was Ahmed's third of the year and cut the Pulaski lead to three. The D-Braves got their final run of the night in the very next inning when Kurt Fleming tripled to right field to score Edison Sanchez who had walked to lead off the inning. Fleming's 13th run batted in cut the Danville run deficit to two but it was all they could get.

Silva was saddled with the loss for the five innings he pitched. He gave up all five earned runs on six hits. He also struck out four. Danilo Alvarez pitched two innings and Ryne Harper made his second D-Braves appearance. The Braves dropped to 14-15.

Dylan Unsworth went six and one-third innings for Pulaski. He gave up three earned runs on six hits. He walked three and struck out one. It was Unsworth's longest outing of 2011 and his fourth win of the season. Angel Raga pitched the final two and two-thirds innings for the Mariners. He earned his league leading seventh save of the season.

Danville opens up a six game homestand tomorrow night. First the D-Braves will start with a three game set with the Burlington Royals and then another three games with the Mariners. The D-Braves will be giving away 1,000 team photos tomorrow night.
