Royals Dominated By Blue Jays In Series Finale

Bluefield, WV- The Bluefield Blue Jays dominated the Burlington Royals 16-5 on Wednesday night in the series finale. Angel Baez takes the loss, his first in his last three starts, while Myles Jaye earns the win. The Blue Jays take the series against the Royals, two games to one.

In the bottom of the first inning, with the bases loaded and two outs, Christopher Hawkins would triple to clear the bases. Bluefield would add two more runs, and head to the second inning leading 6-0. In Burlington's second at bat, Murray Watts tried to score from second on a single by Jose Rodriguez, but was thrown out at the plate, keeping Burlington off the score sheet. In the bottom of the inning, the Blue Jays would expand their lead on two singles, an error, and a home run, making it a 10-0 game, and they weren't done.

Andy Fermin's two run home run in the bottom of the third made it a 12-0 game. Javan Williams would lead off the bottom of the fifth, setting the tone for Bluefield's at bat. They would put up four runs and lead the Royals 16-0 through five innings.

In the top of the seventh, Burlington broke the shutout. The Royals put up five runs, highlighted by Adrian Bringas' three-run home run to centerfield. The road team would not come any closer, falling by 11 runs.

Baez went just one inning, giving up six earned runs, seven total, on three hits, while walking three. Cory Hall pitched three and a third innings, gave up eight runs on seven hits. New Royal, Abel Gonzaez, surrendered a run on four hits, while striking out two in two thirds of an inning. Andrea Pizziconi went the final three innings, allowing just one hit.

Jaye tossed five shutout innings, scattering six hits, and striking out five. Aasron Sanchez gave up all five runs in an inning and two thirds, while Myles Duvall gave up a hit in one and two third innings of work. Kenllie Santana walked three, but allowed not runs or hits in the top of the ninth finishing our the Royals.

For Burlington, Lane Adams, Jose Rodriguez, and Cam Connor each went 2-for-4. Bringas finished 1-for-4 with his only hit being his fourth homer of the year.

Every starter for Bluefield had at least one hit and scored a run. Andy Fermin went 4-for-5, scoring three runs, including his home run.

The Royals will travel to Danville on Thursday to open a three game series with the Braves, who they took two of three from over the weekend.
