Saint John Sea Dogs News Release

The Saint John Sea Dogs have signed their first selection from the 2022 QMJHL Draft, Jeremie Richard.

Selected 37th overall, the defenseman from Moncton, NB was one of the top scoring defenseman on the Moncton Flyers last season, putting up 20 points in 28 regular season games as a rookie. Richard and the Moncton Flyers hoisted the Telus Cup in May of this year, giving the Moncton Flyers their first national title with a win over the Cantonniers de Magog.

"Richard is a player that Anthony Stella and our scouting staff were very high on and we are thrilled that we were able to select him at the spot that we did" said Sea Dogs President and General Manager, Trevor Georgie. "We have had the chance to get to know him and his family, and are so happy that they will get the opportunity to enjoy his hockey journey close to home, and develop in his home province."

Richard put up 6 points in 7 games on the Flyers way to the Cup. He describes himself as a two-way defenseman, able to play both an offensive and defensive role on the blue line.

"It is a privilege to be part of this great organization, taking another big step towards my dreams" said Richard. "I would like to thank all my family, friends, teachers and my past hockey clubs for making this possible. I am truly honoured to wear the blue and white."

The 6'00" 182 lbs defenseman will be joining the Sea Dogs training camp August 15th and participate in the pre-season games, which begin August 18th in Fredericton at the Aitken Centre.
