Privateers' Panetta Named FHL Rookie of the Month

January 5, 2011 - Federal Prospects Hockey League (FPHL)
Watertown Privateers News Release

1000 Islands Privateers' right wing Sebastian Panetta has gotten the attention of the Northcountry hockey fans with his aggressive skating, tough play, and nose for the net. He has garnered attention from Federal Hockey League defenses, who have tried to stop him and the Privateers' top line to little success. All the attention has led to Panetta being named the December 2010 Rookie of the Month. Because Panetta hasn't played 50 games in the ECHL or another ‚¬Å“AA level ‚¬Â league, he falls into the rookie category. Panetta joins New York Aviators' Matthew Puntureri who was named Player of the Month and Peter Skoggard, who was traded from the Barons to the Danbury Whalers late last month, who earned Goalie of the Month honors.

Panetta started the month tallying points in the first four games and made the score sheet 12 of the Privateers' 14 games in December. He scored seven goals while dishing out 14 assists for the month, with two game-winning goals. He defeated Rome on December 8th with the franchise's first overtime goal. As a strong two-way player, he registered a +4 plus/minus rating during December. 16 of the 21 points were scored at even strength. The SUNY-Geneseo product is enjoying a strong first professional campaign, sitting at eighth in the FHL in goals and tenth in points. Sebastian was part of a strong December for the Privateers, who went 10-4-0 during the month and sit two points outside first place with two games against the FHL-leading Akwesasne Warriors this weekend.

Panetta was pleased to receive the award and acknowledged his teammates were a big part of his success. ‚¬Å“It feels good to be recognized. Our team has played very well and I think other guys could have been honored on the team. We had a great record this past month and it's because a lot of guys have been contributing. ‚¬Â The Privateers host Rome Friday at the Bonnie Castle Rec Center at 7 PM. The team starts a home-and-home with Akwesasne Saturday night at 7. The team will host the Official Pep Rally for the 2011 Eric Hutchinson Memorial Tournament that night.

The 1000 Islands Privateers operate in Alexandria Bay and are a founding franchise in the Federal Hockey League. The Privateers play at the Bonnie Castle Recreation Center in Alexandria Bay. ‚¬Å“The future is now ‚¬Â in the Federal Hockey League as the top talent play professional hockey with a chance to advance their careers.
