Pride Split Double Header with Jackals

(Nashua, N.H., August 5, 2008) The Nashua Pride and New Jersey Jackals split a double header on Tuesday, losing game one, 12-2, before clipping the Jackals in game two, 6-2, at Yogi Berra Stadium in Little Falls, N.J.

Game one starting pitcher for the Jackals, Ted Serro (3-2), earned the victory going five innings, giving up two runs (one earned), on three hits and one walk. Relievers Nick Martin and Ryan Pacyna each dealt a scoreless inning in relief.

The Jackals were led by short stop David Urias who went 3-for-4 with a home run and two RBI. First baseman Juan Tejeda finished the game a perfect 2-for-2 with a double and a RBI, while right fielder Marcos Rodriguez went 1-for-4 with a double and three RBI.

Pride first baseman Bryan Duplissie notched his thirteenth home run of the season, a solo shot in the second inning. Designated hitter Dorian Rojas finished 1-for-2 with a double and a RBI.

Starter for the Pride in game one, Jarrett Stawarz (3-3), suffered the loss lasting three and one-third innings, giving up six runs, on nine hits, three walks and two strike outs. Reliever Brett Palanski gave up one run in two-thirds innings of work, while Greg Ford allowed five runs, on three hits, three walks and one strike out in his professional debut. Chris Torres pitched a scoreless inning to finish the game.

The Pride's game two starter, Matt O'Brien (1-0), earned the victory in his debut for Nashua, lasting five and two-thirds innings giving up one run, on four hits, one walk and one strike out. Reliever Mike Joyce delivered two-thirds of an inning of scoreless relief after O'Brien. Rich Garces finished the game giving up one run, on two hits, one walk and one strike out in the seventh inning.

Nashua catcher Chris Torres notched the game winning hit and finished the game 1-for-3 with a double and two RBI. First baseman Bryan Duplissie went 2-for-4 with a RBI, designated hitter Dorian Rojas was 1-for-2 with a double and RBI, while right fielder Vinny Pennell cranked his first career home run and end 1-for-4 with a RBI.

Jackals' starting pitcher in game two, Tom Atlee (1-4), suffered the loss going four and two-thirds innings, giving up five runs (four earned), on eight hits and three strike outs. Reliever Mike Vicaro went two and one-third innings after Atlee and gave up one run, on two hits, one walk and five strike outs.

Jackals' third baseman Bryant Nelson homered for New Jersey and ended the night 2-for-4 with a RBI. Center fielder Zach Smithlin also notched a RBI and finished 2-for-3..

The Pride and Jackals will continue their series on Wednesday morning, at 11:05am, when Nashua sends Jason Paul (3-2) to the mound against New Jersey's Jorge Acosta (1-2).
