
Pride Hold On, Beat Jackals 5-4

(Little Falls, N.J., June 27, 2008) Pride starting pitcher Jarrett Stawarz (3-1) led the Nashua Pride (16-17) to a 5-4 win over the New Jersey Jackals (18-16) and earned his third victory of the season, going five innings, giving up two runs, on four hits, four walks and one strike out.
Pride Right fielder Jeremy Pickrel hit his team leading fifth home run of the season in the eight inning, which turned out to be the game winning hit, and finished the night 1-for-1 with the homer, an RBI, and three walks. First baseman Bryan Duplissie notched a two run single in the fifth inning, and finished the night 1-for-4 with two RBI. Designated hitter Aregenis Tavarez also drove in a run for Nashua, going 1-for-4 with a double.
The Jackals rallied from down 5-2 in the ninth inning to close the gap to one run before Pride closer Andrew Weimer sealed his league leading tenth save of the season. Weimer gave up a pair of runs, on three hits, while picking up a strike out in the final inning. Relievers Rich Garces and Adam Piechowski also saw action out of the Nashua bullpen, combining to throw three scoreless innings against New Jersey.
The Jackals received eight innings of work from starter Aaron Tressler, who suffered the loss, going eighth innings, allowing five runs (four earned), on seven hits, five walks and seven strike outs.
New Jersey's right fielder Luke Allen finished the game 1-for-3 with a home run and two RBI. Second baseman Marcus Sanders went 3-for-5 with an RBI and two runs scored, while catcher Craig Maddox ended the night 2-for-4 with a triple.
The Pride and Jackals will continue their series with game two on Saturday night, at 7:05pm, when Nashua send German Melendez to the mound. New Jersey's Tom Atlee is scheduled to start for the Jackals.
