Calgary Stampeders News Release
A pair of Classic performances have earned Stampeders players Canadian Football League player-of-the-week honours.
Maurice Price and Charleston Hughes both distinguished themselves during the Stamps' Labour Day Classic victory over the Edmonton Eskimos and have respectively been named the offensive and defensive players of the week for Week 10.
Price, who returned to the lineup after missing one game due to injury, registered career highs 165 receiving yards and three touchdowns in the Red and White's 37-34 victory over the Eskimos. He had a total of five catches on the day including scoring plays of 33, 42 and 66 yards.
Price became the second player in Stamps history to make three touchdown catches in the Labour Day Classic as he joined Allen Pitts, who accomplished the feat in 1995.
Meanwhile, Hughes earned defensive honours in Week 10 on the strength of his three-sack performance against Edmonton. Hughes also had four tackles, including one tackle for loss. It was the veteran defensive end's second three-sack game of 2013 and, despite missing two games due to injury this season, Hughes ranks second in the CFL with eight sacks.
This marks the second time this season Hughes has been named defensive player of the week as he also took home that honour in Week 1.
Stamps players have been honoured with weekly awards a total of nine times this season. Besides Price and Hughes, Jon Cornish was offensive player of the week in Week 7 and top Canadian in Week 1 and Week 7. In addition, Bo Levi Mitchell was the offensive player of the week in Week 5 while kicker Rene Paredes was named the league's special teams player of the week for both Week 3 and Week 4.
Also, Cornish (Canadian) and Paredes (special teams) were the CFL's players of the month for June/July.
The Stampeders' next home action comes on Friday, Sept. 13 when Calgary hosts the Hamilton Tiger-Cats. Kickoff at McMahon Stadium is at 7 p.m. and tickets are available at Stampeders.com.
