
Burnett Named CFL Special Teams Player of the Week

(Edmonton) - Eskimos cornerback and returner Joe Burnett has earned Gibson's Finest CFL Special Teams Player of the Week honours for his performance in Monday's Labour Day Classic in Calgary.
In addition to a 78-yard punt return in the second quarter that set up an Eskimos' touchdown, Burnett also returned three additional punts for 13 yards and a kickoff for 24 yards.
Burnett signed as a free agent on Oct. 7, 2011. In 25 games with the Green and Gold, he recorded 34 kickoff returns for 701 yards, 74 punt returns for 662 yards and 66 defensive tackles. Last season, he recorded a team and league-leading six interceptions for 167 yards and two touchdowns and was named a Western Division All-Star and CFL All-Star.
The Edmonton Eskimos host the Calgary Stampeders in the Labour Day Rematch this Friday, September 6. Kickoff is at 7 p.m.
