Boyds, Md (April 10, 2014) - The Washington Spirit will host 2013 regular season champions, Western New York Flash on Sunday, April 13 at 4pm at the Maryland SoccerPlex.

Washington has added a lot of new talent to their 2014 roster. One of the newest members of the team is Crystal Dunn, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2014 NWSL College Draft. Dunn, a U.S. allocated Player and one of the newest members of the senior US Women's National Team, has played primarily on defense for the U.S. and in the midfield for the University of North Carolina. Other new comers to the team are U.S. allocated midfielder Yael Averbuch, former Seattle Reign FC midfielder Christine Nairn and former Portland Thorns FC striker Tiffany Weimer. Weimer has already proven to be a key member of the Spirit offense during the preseason, partnering with Canadian Women's National team midfielder, Diana Matheson to form an effective scoring duo.

To bolster goal production, the Spirit have added English international striker, Jodie Taylor, known for her tenacity at goal. And Danish defender Cecilie Sandvej joins a strong returning defense that includes returning players Ali Krieger (USWNT), Robyn Gayle (CANWNT), Tori Huster, and Toni Pressley.

Washington's home opener is expected to be a thrilling matchup against U.S. internationals Carli Lloyd, midfielder and striker Abby Wambach, who ended the 2013 season with eleven goals and eight assists, giving goalkeepers Ashlyn Harris and Chantel Jones a challenge to look forward to. Western New York led the league in goal last season with 36.

General manager and head coach Mark Parsons also added three strong members of the Mexican Women's National Team to the roster: Striker Renae Cuéllar, midfielder Veronica Perez and the newest signing for the Spirit, defender Bianca Sierra. Sierra was selected to represent Mexico at the CONCACAF Women's Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Vancouver, B.C. While at Auburn University and recently concluded a successful career at Auburn University.

The Washington Spirit next face off against FC Kansas City at home on Saturday, April 19, at 6:30pm.
