Sporting Kansas City News Release
Sporting KC (4-4-2, 14 points) is back on the road again this weekend to face rival Houston Dynamo (1-5-2, 5 points) Saturday night at BBVA Compass Stadium. The match will kick off at 7:30 p.m. CT with three hours of live television coverage on 38 The Spot and SKCTV starting at 7 p.m. CT. Listeners can also follow the game with local radio broadcasts on 99.3 FM and La Grande 1340 AM, with The Final Whistle: Sporting KC Postgame Show airing immediately after the game on 99.3 FM.
As with all Sporting KC away matches, No Other Pub in the Kansas City Power & Light District will host a watch party for the game, with the Score and Pour drink special in effect. Supporters can watch the Swope Park Rangers game Saturday evening at the pub, as well.
The history between Sporting KC and Houston Dynamo is marked by closely contested matches and fierce playoff clashes. Since the Kansas City side became Sporting KC in 2011, the clubs have squared off 20 times in all competitions, including five playoff games, and Manager Peter Vermes' men hold an 8-5-7 record across that span. Meanwhile, Houston boasts a 8-5-10 mark in the all time regular season series, with a 4-3-5 mark at home.
Houston has claimed only one win so far in the 2016 MLS regular season, putting them at the bottom of the Supporters' Shield rankings with five points. The team's sole win came against FC Dallas, a team tied for first place in the league with 17 points, by a resounding 5-0 scoreline on March 12. The Dynamo have claimed only one point in six games since then, and their six-game winless streak is the longest active skid in MLS.
Sporting KC currently finds itself on a winless streak, as well, with three losses and two ties in its past five matches. Yet with 14 points, the team squarely in the center of the Western Conference and in the upper third for points in the league. The club will be further boosted by previously injured players Chance Myers, Paulo Nagamura, Seth Sinovic and Justin Mapp returning to full fitness. In its most recent match, Sporting KC claimed a point at home with a 1-1 draw against LA Galaxy as Brad Davis and Giovani Dos Santos exchanged stunning goals.
Saturday will be the first time Davis returns to BBVA Compass Stadium since Sporting KC acquired the six-time All-Star midfielder from the Dynamo in January. Davis played for Houston from 2006-2015, and is the team's all-time leader in regular season appearances (271), starts (252), assists (104) and play-off appearances (27). The midfielder also recently made his 400th MLS appearance, making him only the fifth player in MLS history to do so.
