Preview: Spirit Face Sting in First Road Test of Season

Sarnia, Ont. - The Saginaw Spirit hit the road for the first time in the 2022-2023 season as they play the Sarnia Sting at Progressive Auto Sales Arena in Sarnia, Ontario on Friday night.

The Spirit played their last game at home against the Niagara IceDogs on October 2nd, taking a 7-2 loss to the Niagara IceDogs. Theo Hill and Vegas Golden Knights prospect Matyas Sapovaliv scored for the Spirit.

Sarnia played their last game in Windsor where they won 2-1 in overtime against the Windsor Spitfires. Ty Voit scored the overtime goal just 19 seconds in to the extra period. Voit has scored the game-winning goal in each of the Sting's two victories this season.

Saginaw and Sarnia have yet to play this season but did play eight times in the 2021-2022 season. The Spirit won five of the eight meetings and posted a 2-1-1-0 mark at the Progressive Auto Sales Arena.

Leading Players:

Pavel Mintyukov leads the way for the Spirit with five points on opening night against the Storm. Calem Mangone, Theo Hill, and 2025 draft eligible Michael Misa are tied for the lead in goals with two. New York Islanders prospect Tristan Lennox leads the team with 6.00 goals allowed average (GAA) and a .783 save percentage (SV%).

Toronto Maple Leafs prospect Ty Voit leads Sarnia in goals and points with two goals and four points. Five players are tied for assists with two, including Voit. San Jose Sharks prospect Benjamin Gaudreau leads with a 1.99 GAA and .907 SV% and is the reigning OHL Goaltender of the Week.
