Preview: Spirit Begin Three Games in Three Nights Thursday in Windsor

Windsor, ON. - The Saginaw Spirit (15-10-2-2, 34 pts.) look to get back on track Thursday, December 12 when they finish the back end of a home-and-home against West Division rival Windsor Spitfires (16-6-3-0, 35 pts.) for the fourth of eight regular season meetings.  It is a 7:05 p.m. puck drop from the WFCU Centre in Windsor, Ontario.

The Spirit have dropped the last two meetings against the Spitfires by a 7-1 goal differential after they defeated Windsor in a overtime thriller in the first matchup of the season.

Fans can catch all the action on the flagship WSGW Newsradio 100.5 FM and with the voice of Saginaw Spirit hockey Joey Battaino on the call.  "Countdown to Face-off" begins 15 minutes prior to puck drop.

Fans can visit the Buffalo Wild Wings location at 2690 Tittabawassee Road in Saginaw and join the official "Watch Party" for all Spirit away games. Admission is free of charge.

A shorthanded Saginaw Spirit lineup struggled to gain control offensively in the 3-0 shutout loss against the Spitfires Saturday night.  New York Islanders prospect Blade Jenkins, Philadelphia Flyers prospect Mason Millman, and 2020 NHL Draft prospect Ethan Cardwell all missed the game against Windsor.

Saginaw defenseman Ilya Solovyov was also out of the Spirit lineup Saturday to returned to his home country Belarus to participate in the Belarusian World Juniors tryouts.  Solovyov has scored three goals and 24 assists for 27 points in his 24 games for the Saginaw Spirit.

The Spirit will be without top 2020 NHL Draft prospect Cole Perfetti in Thursday's game against Windsor.  The Whitby, Ontario native Perfetti joined Team Canada's World Junior Camp in hopes to represent his home country in the 2020 IIHF Under-20 World Junior Championship.

Saginaw's fourth ranked shorthanded unit held the OHL's top power play scoreless in Saturday's 3-0 loss against the Windsor Spitfires.

Spitfires goaltender Kari Piiroinen stopped all 23 Saginaw Spirit shots for his first shutout of the season.  In Piiroinen's last two outings against the Spirit, he has allowed one goal on 58 shots.

2020 NHL Draft prospect Will Cuylle scored what proved to be the game-winning goal in the first period of Saturday's game.  The Toronto, Ontario native has nine goals and nine assists this season for the Spitfires.

Vegas Golden Knights draft pick Connor Corcoran tallied his 10th goal of the season in the third period against the Spirit Saturday, which tied his previous season-high total from last season.  The Beeton, Ontario native ranks fifth among OHL defenseman in goals this season.

The Windsor Spitfires have four players with rights owned by NHL teams, forwards Tyler Angle (Columbus Blue Jackets), Egor Afanasyev (Nashville Predators), Curtis Douglas (Dallas Stars) and defenseman Connor Corcoran (Vegas Golden Knights).

The Saginaw Spirit have a total of four players on their roster with NHL ties. Blade Jenkins (NY Islanders), Cole Coskey (NY Islanders), Mason Millman (Philadelphia), and Damien Giroux (Minnesota).

Saginaw has two players listed in the 2020 NHL Central Scouting 'Players to Watch' list, including 'A' prospect Cole Perfetti. Ilya Solovyov is listed as a 'C' prospect.

The Windsor Spitfires have a total of five players on the 'Players to Watch' list for November. Jean-Luc Foudy and Will Cuylle are both 'A' prospects, while Kyle McDonald and defensemen Ruben Rafkin and Dylan Robinson are 'C' prospects.
