No team in the QMJHL's Eastern Conference is hotter than the Charlottetown Islanders. Winners of five straight games, the Isles will face a tall task in the form of one of the Western Conference's hottest teams, the Sherbrooke Phoenix.
The Islanders (24-27-5-1) took a convincing 6-3 victory over the Drummondville Voltigeurs despite facing some early adversity in the game. Charlottetown now sits sixth overall in the Eastern Conference standings, leapfrogging over the Baie-Comeau Drakkar while still holding a game in hand.
Meanwhile, the Phoenix (40-12-3-2) haven't lost in regulation in 12 straight games. They've been a powerhouse ever since the return from holiday break, particularly after acquiring players such as Jacob Melanson and former Islander Jakub Brabenec.
ROSTER UPDATES
Charlottetown
Sam Bowness returns to the lineup following a one-game suspension. The status of Jarrett Todd is unknown after taking a hit from behind against the Voltigeurs and not returning to the game.
Sherbrooke
The Phoenix iced a fully healthy lineup in their last game on Sunday.
PLAYERS TO WATCH:
Charlottetown
Giovanni Morneau has been lights out as of late, picking up another goal last night. He now has eight points in his last four games.
Jérémie Biakabutuka had another multi-point effort last night, scoring the eventual game-winner. He's picked up 11 points since the start of February.
Sherbrooke
Former Islander Jakub Brabenec has been enjoying his time in Sherbrooke, with 24 points in just 15 games with the Phoenix. The QMJHL's reigning Rookie of the Year has nearly matched his point total with Charlottetown this season in 13 less games.
No Phoenix forward has been more dangerous than Jacob Melanson. The Seattle Kraken prospect has an astounding 36 points in 21 games with the Phoenix. His 80 points on the season are good for 7th in the league.
SERIES AT A GLANCE
Sherbrooke defeated Charlottetown 4-1 at the Eastlink Centre on January 15th; however, the loss was seen as a turning point in the Islanders season thanks to their strong play in that game.
