FC Tulsa News Release
TULSA - After a perfect start to the season with three wins in three matches, FC Tulsa's season-long roadtrip heads South for a stop in Georgia to take on Atlanta United 2. FC Tulsa brings the luxury of a few extra days of rest following its massive road win over Eastern Conference contender Indy Eleven on May 8, and will try to match the best start for any club in the USL Championship since 2015, 4-0-0.
ABOUT ATLANTA UNITED 2
Sitting just above the playoff line in 4th in the Central Division with a 1-1-1 record and four points, Atlanta United 2 enters Wednesday's match with a mixed bag of performances so far in 2021. Already with 24 different players making appearances for the squad, ATL UTD 2's roster has already shown the churn that comes from many MLS2 clubs. The team has already found more success than last season, with two results in three matches after a disappointing 2020 that included just three total wins and 12 total points.
Atlanta United 2 opened the 2021 season with three consecutive road matches, a 2-0 road loss to Louisville City FC followed by an Oklahoma double with OKC Energy FC - a 1-0 win and a 2-2 draw. While Wednesday's match will make for a tight turnaround for ATL UTD 2, it will be the club's home opener at Fifth Third Bank Stadium in Kennesaw, Ga.
SERIES HISTORY
This match will be the first time the teams have met, but is the first of four meetings this year between the Central Division sides. The trip to Georgia will be the farthest East that FC Tulsa has ever traveled since the franchise began play in the USL Championship in 2015, beating out the Roughnecks trip to Louisville City FC in 2015.
THREE UP, THREE DOWN
FC Tulsa is one of just three 3-0-0 teams in the USL Championship, joined by Tampa Bay Rowdies and Rio Grande Valley FC. In FC Tulsa's seven-year history in the league dating back to 2015, only 11 previous teams have started with a perfect record through three matches. Of those 11, nine made the playoffs with two advancing to the Finals. Only one, Louisville City FC in 2018, lifted the Cup.
JADAMA BACK HOME
Atlanta-area native Mo Jadama will return to his former stomping grounds for Wednesday's match against Atlanta United 2. Jadama captained ATL UTD 2 in 2020, playing every minute of the season for the club. This will be Jadama's first visit to Fifth Third Bank Stadium in Kennesaw as an opponent, however.
RIVAS REMAINS KING
Joaquin Rivas is now FC Tulsa's all-time goalscoring leader and currently sits tied at the top of the USL Championship's 2021 Golden Boot race. Rivas and San Antonio FC forward Santiago Patiño both have four goals scored through three matches this season. Rivas' previous season high in goals came with Tulsa in 2018 when he scored 12 goals in 29 matches.
SEAN'S SOLID START
Sean Lewis has already picked up an award of his own this season as he won the fan-voted Save of the Week for Week 3. It's his second Save of the Week honor after winning the award once in 2020 (Week 11). Lewis has already recorded two clean sheets on the season, but has received plenty of help from his backline. The Michigan native in net has only had to face six shots on target through three matches, the fewest allowed by any team that has played three matches in 2021.
WATCH PARTY
Fans are invited to a free watch party at The Tulsan Bar for Wednesday night's match. Kickoff is set for 6:30 p.m. CT and all who attend will be entered into a raffle to win an El Salvador National Team jersey signed by Joaquín Rivas.
HOW TO TUNE IN
The match will be broadcast on TV locally on My41 Tulsa and nationally on ESPN+. Fans can also follow @FCTulsa on Twitter, Instagram or Facebook for updates and highlights throughout the match.
