Preview: FC Cincinnati at New York Red Bulls II

June 1, 2018 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
FC Cincinnati News Release

M-L-YES!

On Tuesday, Major League Soccer announced that FC Cincinnati would be joining MLS as an expansion team in 2019

At an announcement at Cincinnati's Rhinegeist Brewery, MLS Commissioner Don Garber welcomed the Carl H. Lindner III-led ownership group into the nation's top soccer league

KEINAN UNAVAILABLE THIS WEEKEND

Club captain Dekel Keinan will be unavailable Saturday when FC Cincinnati travels to face New York Red Bulls II

Last Saturday against Louisville City FC, he was shown his fifth yellow card of the season, leading to this weekend's suspension

Outside of a rest at Indy because of fixture congestion on May 2, this will be Keinan's first game he'll miss for disciplinary reasons in 2018

KOCH'S BENCH EVEN SHORTER, TOO

In addition to Dekel Keinan's absence this weekend, Alan Koch's bench will be even shorter

Assistant coach Yoann Damet will also be unavailable to the skipper ... he was ejected from last Saturday's game against Louisville in the 57th minute

While he will travel with the team to New Jersey, he will not be on the field or around the locker room and will rather watch the game from a booth above the field

LOOKING FOR A FIRST

Saturday in Harrison, the Orange & Blue will be looking for their first-ever road win against Red Bulls II

FCC is 0-2-0 in their previous two road trips to the greater NYC area, including a 4-0 loss last fall just days after falling, 3-2, to the team's parent club - New York Red Bulls - in the U.S. Open Cup semifinals at Nippert Stadium

FC Cincinnati has never scored a goal on the road against NYRBII, being shut out in both previous trips east

At home this year, New York Red Bulls II are 4-0-1 - including a 5-0 victory over the Tampa Bay Rowdies and a 4-1 win over Indy Eleven

Earlier this year - during the U.S. Open Cup Third Round - FCC went into a venue where the host had previously been undefeated and earned a resounding win ... Pittsburgh came into that game 3-0-2 at Highmark Stadium and had not surrendered a single goal at home, but Cincinnati claimed a 3-1 victory to advance to next week's Fourth Round

STANDINGS WATCH

Following last Saturday's 2-0 loss to second-place Louisville City FC, FC Cincinnati dropped to second place in the USL Eastern Conference standings with 20 points through 11 games (6-3-2)

FCC is tied with Charleston Battery (5-2-5, 20 points), who have played one more game

Pittsburgh (4-1-6, 18 pts.) is fourth, while Charlotte Independence (5-3-2, 17 pts.) and New York Red Bulls II (4-2-5, 17 pts.) are tied for fifth

ROAD WARRIORS THUS FAR ...

FC Cincinnati has played six of its first 11 games of the season away from Nippert Stadium and has posted a 4-1-1 record on the road

Away from home, the Orange and Blue have out-scored their hosts 10-7 on the season, averaging 1.67 goals on the road

Defensively, FCC is holding its hosts to 1.17 goals per game with two shutouts (at Charleston Battery on March 15 and at Indy Eleven on March 31)

Of Cincinnati's 20 points on the season, 13 of them have come away from Nippert Stadium

... BUT WILL BE HOMEBODIES THIS SUMMER

While FCC has spent considerable time on the road so far this season, that is soon to be changing

Between now and mid-August, Cincinnati plays 10 of 14 USL games in front of the record-setting, raucous crowds at Nippert Stadium

Included in that run are six straight home games between July 14 and August 18

Three of FCC's next six USL games are on the road, but the Orange & Blue will only play a single road game between June 30 and August 18

U.S. OPEN CUP RUN, 2018 EDITION

FC Cincinnati has advanced to the fourth round of the U.S. Open Cup for the second straight year

The team's run in the 2018 edition of the cup began with a 4-1 after extra time win over NPSL's Detroit City FC on May 16 at Cincinnati's Gettler Stadium ... Emery Welshman factored in all four goals, netting a hat trick and setting up Corben Bone's game-winning goal in the extra session

On May 23, Cincinnati traveled to USL foe Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC - who were previously undefeated at Highmark Stadium and had yet to allow a goal at home - and came away with a 3-1 win to advance to the Fourth Round

On June 6, FCC will host MLS' Minnesota United FC at Nippert Stadium ... tickets are now on sale to the general public, and start at $15
