Evansville IceMen News Release
CLIMBING UP THE STANDINGS
The Evansville IceMen have quietly climbed their way into the playoff hunt with a successful stretch of three wins in four games. The team is now just four points out of possible playoff spot in the Western Conference. Since Alaska, the IceMen are 5-4-1 and earned victories against three teams with winning records last week. Evansville traveled to Toledo Wednesday and knocked off a Walleye team that had been unbeaten in their last ten games. The IceMen then scored a season-high seven goals in a 7-3 win over Cincinnati Friday at the Ford Center. After a close loss to the Cyclones Saturday in the rematch out in Cincinnati, the IceMen went in to Fort Wayne and beat the rival Komets 6-4 Sunday.
LEADING THE LEAGUE
After scoring his first career hat trick Sunday against Fort Wayne, second-year forward Tyson Fawcett leads the ECHL with 15 goals in 23 games. The Barrie, ON native already has six more goals than he scored all of last season in Brampton where he was an ECHL All Star. Fawcett totaled five goals in three games this past weekend. Close on his heels is Fawcett's linemate Daultan Leveille, who is second in the league with 13 goals. Leveille has six goals in his last six games and has scored in eight of his last 11 contests. The former 1st Round Pick of the NHL's Atlanta Thrashers, now Winnipeg Jets, is tied for the ECHL lead in game-winning goals (4) and fifth in power play goals (5).
SUDDENLY POWERFUL
The once struggling power play of the IceMen has suddenly developed into a lethal weapon. Evansville has the third best power play in the league, operating at a 21 percent clip, and converted on eight of its opportunities in four games this week. The IceMen scored two power play goals Saturday in Cincinnati and added another three on the man-advantage Sunday in Fort Wayne, vaulting Evansville into the league lead with a 30 percent power play on the road.
GET GLAD
The Gladiators make their first of three trips to the Ford Center this season after rebranding from Gwinnett in the offseason. Atlanta followed up a last place finish in the Eastern Conference in 2014-15 with a good start to the 2015-16 campaign. The Glads are currently in third place in a highly-competitive South Division and eighth in the East. At one point in late October into early November, Atlanta won six consecutive road games. Like the IceMen, they have won three of their last four games coming into to Wednesday. Veteran forward and captain Derek Nesbitt leads the Gladiators with 11 goals and nine assists, including 11 points on the power play.
