The Bees: A native of Middletown, CT, Shawn Haviland will receive his first starting assignment of the season in the first game of today's doubleheader. A former draft pick of the Oakland Athletics in 2008, the right-hander has struck out 16 batters in 14.2 innings of relief this season (eight games), with the former Harvard pitcher tossing two or more innings in an appearance four times.
The Opposition: Outfielder Steve Lombardozzi has been one of the Atlantic League's hottest hitters since the start of the season. The former draft pick of the Washington Nationals ranks in second in the league in batting (.354) and in hits (34) while also placing in the top ten in on-base percentage (.394) and RBIs (15).
