June 1, 2004 - Arena Football League (1987-2008) (AFL I)
Orlando Predators News Release
Orlando, Fla. (June 1) -- In what may be the first of several end-of-season honors for the former West Virginia University star, Orlando Predators kicker JAY TAYLOR was named to the Arena Football League's All-Rookie Team on Tuesday.
Taylor, who is also a candidate for All-Arena and Kicker of the Year honors, had an outstanding first year. He set an Arena Football League record by hitting 72% of his field goal attempts (18 of 25), obliterating the old record for best field goal percentage of 63.9% set in 2001 by Nashville's Steve McLaughlin. Taylor was also the league-leader in extra point accuracy, converting 79 of 85 attempts (92.9%). He has made his last 38 extra points, setting a new team record for consecutive point-after-touchdowns. He finished third in the league in scoring for kickers, despite missing one game with injury.
The Austin Wranglers, who concluded their inaugural season with an 8-8 record, may have a bright future after leading all AFL teams with three selections to the 2004 All-Rookie team: OL/DL AARON HUMPHREY, OS TACOMA FONTAINE and DS DERON JENKINS.
Indiana Firebirds QB ADRIAN MCPHERSON, who led all rookies in passing yards (3,297), touchdowns (61), attempts (397), and completions (237), topped the list at quarterback. McPherson also showed his versatility by leading all rookies and ranking No. 3 overall in rushing yards (259) and rushing touchdowns (19), the most by any quarterback in AFL history.
Other All-Rookie honorees include Chicago Rush WR/LB ETU MOLDENâwho ranked No. 8 in the AFL in receptions (101), receiving yards (1280) and yards from scrimmage (1302)âand New Orleans VooDoo DS DELMONICO MONTGOMERY, who was tied for No. 3 in the league in solo tackles (80) and passes defended (21).
