GAME NOTES
Rejoining The Stable The Barrie Colts started the year as a favourite to compete for the 2013 OHL championship and have not disappointed. The Colts sit atop the Eastern Conference standings with 71 points in 53 games. The Colts did this while missing Mark Scheifele for 20 games while he was at the World Juniors and with the Winnipeg Jets. Scheifele already has 6 points in 3 games since rejoining the Colts.
Former Colts Brendan Bell will play against his former team for the second time since being traded and the first time in Ottawa. The 5th round OHL pick from Uxbridge shares the same name with a former Ottawa 67's captain. 67's goalie Clint Windsor also spent time in Barrie. Windsor played 60 games for the Colts during the 10/11 and 11/12 season. Windsor came over from Mississauga earlier this season.
Players To Keep An Eye On
The Barrie Colts are looking to build on the last years' success after taking the eventual Eastern Conference finalist Ottawa 67's to 7 games in the second round. The Colts have 6 NHL-drafted players on their roster; Mark Scheifele (Win-1st Rnd), Anthony Camara (Bos-3rd Rnd), Andreas Athansiou (DET- 4th RND), Alex Lepkowski (BUF-5th Rnd), Jake Dotchin (TB-6th Rnd) and Mitchell Theoret (NYI-7th RND). They also have 4 players ranked by Central Scouting Services for the upcoming draft in Erik Bradford, Zach Hall, Michael Webster and goaltender Alex Fatinos.
Recipe for Success
In the past three games, the line of Ryan Van Stralen, Sean Monahan, and Joseph Blandisi has combined for 20 points. This includes 2 hat tricks by Monahan (vs. Windsor) and Van Stralen (vs. Belleville). Look for this line to keep up their torrid pace.
