BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Bloomington PrairieThunder matched its season-high for goals in a game while earning a 6-5 victory over the Fort Wayne Komets at U.S. Cellular Coliseum before 1,767 people Sunday night in International Hockey League action.

The victory moved the PrairieThunder into a tie with Fort Wayne for third place with 29 points and a 13-8-1-2 record. Bloomington returns to action Saturday with a 7:05 p.m. home contest against the Quad City Mallards.

Brett Holmberg had two goals, while Zac Pearson had three assists and defenseman Jason Lepine scored three points on a goal and two assists. Lepine has scored at least one point in five straight games.

Holmberg got the PrairieThunder on the scoreboard first with 17:19 remaining in the first period on a power play goal with assists to Pearson and Lepine. Matthew Spiller scored his first goal with the PrairieThunder at the 7:41 mark of the first period off a Pearson assist for a 2-0 lead.

Konstan Shafranov cut the deficit to 2-1 with eight second remaining in the period on assists by P.C. Drouin and Colin Chaulk on a power play.

The PrairieThunder then erupted for a season-high four goals in the second period to grab a 6-2 advantage. Fort Wayne tied the game at 2-2 on David Hukalo's goal with 16:37 remaining before the Bloomington explosion.

Jon Booras started the scoring with a power play goal off assists from Spiller and Lepine 57 seconds after Hukalo's goal. Holmberg scored his second goal 66 seconds later on assists by Craig Macdonald and Travis Banga.

Matt McIlvane scored at the 6:31 mark on assists by Billy Bagron and Booras before Lepine scored with 1:29 to go on assists by Pearson and Booras.

Leo Thomas scored two goals and Guy Dupuis added another as Fort Wayne scored three times in the third period, but it wasn't enough. The loss dropped Fort Wayne's record to 14-9-0-1.

Bloomington outshot the Komets, 38-35, with Andrew Martin earning the win in net for Bloomington. Nick Boucher was the losing goalie. Bloomington was 2 for 7 on the power play, while Fort Wayne was 1 for 6.
