
Icehawks Top Dayton Gems 5-2 For Seventh Straight Home Win

PORT HURON, MI - The Port Huron Icehawks scored four interrupted goals on Sunday, including three in the third period to top the Dayton Gems 5-2 at McMorran Arena. The win was the Icehawks seventh straight on home ice and their fifth win in as many matchups with Dayton this season.
The second place Icehawks improve to 18-7-0-1 overall and move within two points of the first place Muskegon Lumberjacks, who were idle tonight. The Icehawks are 11-2-0-0 at McMorran Arena this season and have not lost at home since the second week in November. They saw their six game overall winning streak snapped on Friday in Flint.
Icehawks newcomer Pete Rouleau had a big game for Port Huron, recording two goals and an assist. The goals were his first as an Icehawk. Jamie Lovell notched one goal and two assists and Mickael Bedard and Derek Patrosso each tallied a goal and an assist.
The two teams entered the third period tied 2-2, but the Icehawks ignited with three goals in the first five minutes of the frame for the decisive win. Bedard beat goalie Derek MacIntyre just 27 seconds after the first puck drop to give Port Huron a 3-2 lead. He was assisted by Rouleau.
The offensive onslaught continued with Rouleau's second of the night at 2:40. The goal came on the power play and was assisted by Jamie Lovell and Mike Gershon. The Icehawks got another insurance goal at 4:24, this time off the stick of Lovell on assists from Tab Lardner and Jason Kostadine. The Icehawks outshot the Gems 17-13 in the period.
The Icehawks skated to an early lead on Pete Rouleau's first goal of the season at 3:19 in the first period. The Gems responded with a pair of goals late in the period. Sam Bloom tied the contest at14:32 on assists from Greg Labenski and Mike Vaskivuo. Labenski scored a goal of his own less than three minutes later to give his team a 2-1 advantage. Matt Auffrey and Jonathon Ornelas assisted. Shots were tied 7-7 in the period.
The Icehawks evened the score with a Derek Patrosso goal at 5:35 in the second period. Mike Gershon and Mickael Bedard assisted on the play. The Icehawks outshot the Gems 15-7 in the second.
The Icehawks outshot their opponent 39-27 overall. Icehawks goalie Larry Sterling turned away 25 of 27 shots for his fourth straight win. MacIntyre made 34 saves. Port Huron was 1-3 on the power play and Dayton was 0-3.

The Icehawks head to Flint for a game on Tuesday before taking a Christmas break. They return home to host the same Gems on Sunday, December 27.
