PrairieThunder signs Neal

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - Bloomington PrairieThunder coach Jarrod Skalde added experience and depth to his group of defensemen Wednesday with the signing of John Neal.

The 5-foot-11, 193-pound Neal, who is in his third year in the professional ranks, has spent his entire career in the CHL. He has played in 116 games, scoring 13 goals with 30 assists for 43 points and 162 minutes in penalties.

Neal broke into the pros during the 2006-07 season with the Youngstown Steelhounds. He played 36 games, scoring four goals with three assists for seven points and racking up 30 penalty minutes.

He finished his rookie season with the Lubock Cotton Kings where he played nine games, scoring one goal. The Scotland, Onatario native played with the Austin Ice Bats last season.

The 23-year-old Neal saw action in 57 regular season and three playoff games. He scored eight goals and had 21 assists for 29 points with 52 penalty minutes. He was a teammate of current PrairieThunder defenseman Geoff Patton.

Neal began this season with the Rapid City Rush where he played 14 games. He had six assists and 20 penalty minutes.

To make room for Neal, who will wear No. 5, the PrairieThunder waived rookie defenseman Brian Jacque, who played two games with the team.

Per team policy, terms of the contract were not released.

The PrairieThunder, which has won two straight for a 7-9 record, returns to action Thursday with a 7:05 p.m. against Port Huron at U.S. Cellular Coliseum
