BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Bloomigton PrairieThunder dropped a 3-2 decision to Port Huron before 2,899 people Satutday night in International Hockey League action at U.S. Cellular Coliseum.
The loss slipped the PrairieThunder's record to 29-28-3-5 (66 points) ahead of Sunday's 4:05 p.m. rematch at home against Port Huron. Bloomington remained seven points ahead of Flint and Quad City in the race for the fourth and final postseason playoff berth.
Port Huron jumped to a 2-1 lead after the first period on goals by Jamie Lovell and Derek Patrosso. Lovell's goal came with 13:59 remaining on assists by Matt Auffrey and Nick Lindberg. Patrosso's score came off an assist by Kris Vernarsky at the 10:15 mark.
Bloomington got its goal from Zac Pearson on assists by Matt Woodard and Preston Briggs with 8:07 left in the initial period.
Both teams scored a goal in the second period as Mike Kinnie found the net on an unassisted effort with 8:07 remaining. Pearson added his second goal at the 5:13 mark on an assist by Preston Briggs.
Andrew Martin suffered the loss in net, stopping 19 of 22 shots. Bloomington had 41 shots on goal.
