Bloomington, Illinois - Preston Mizzi scored two goals and added an assist to power the Rockford Icehogs to a 5-1 United Hockey League Western Conference victory over the Bloomington PrairieThunder before 3,110 people Friday night at U.S. Cellular Coliseum.
Mizzi scored his goals in the second and third periods as the Icehogs pulled away to their fourth victory in seven games. Other Rockford goals came from Chaz Johnson, Kaleb Betts and Kevin Ulanski.
The PrairieThunder took a 1-0 lead early in the first period on a Garett Cameron goal off an assist by Mathieu Brunelle and Jon Jankus at the 6:29 mark. Rockford tied the game on Johnson's goal at the 13:33 mark of the first period.
The Icehogs took the lead for good at 2-1 on Betts' goal with 16:28 remaining in the second period. Nicolas Corbeil and Ulanski assisted on the goal. The Icehogs added their second goal of the period two minutes later on Mizzi's first goal.
The Icehogs converted two of four power plays in the second period, while the PrairieThunder (2-6-0) was shut out on five power play attempts in the second period.
Rockford outshot the PrairieThunder, 41-33, with Rockford goalie Fredric Cloutier recording 32 saves to earn the win.
