Mike Doyle's goal 8:02 into the third period gave the Rockford Icehogs a 2-1 victory over the Bloomington PrairieThunder on Wednesday night in a Western Conference battle in United Hockey League action at U.S. Cellular Coliseum before 3,389 people.
The loss dropped the PrairieThunder's record to 6-13 ahead of Friday night's game at Kalamazoo. Bloomington returns home Saturday to face Quad City in a 7:05 p.m. contest.
The PrairieThunder took a 1-0 lead in the first period on a powerplay goal by Jarad Bourassa. Mike Clarke and B.J. Gaustad had assists on the goal 8:01 into the period.
Rockford, which has a 10-8-2 record, tied the score at 1-1 when Nicolas Corbeil scored on a powerplay with 28 seconds remaining in the second period.
Rockford had 26 shots on goal compared to Bloomington's 25. The PrairieThunder was without veteran center Tyler Rennette, who was placed on the 7-day injured list prior to the game.
