Elmira Jackals News Release

The Jackals suffered a hiccup in Week 8; for the first time since the opening weekend of the season, Elmira lost two games in a weekend. Friday the Jackals fell short in a tightly contested 3-2 game against 1st place Muskegon in Elmira's first trip to L.C. Walker Arena. Saturday the Jackals hit the ice at the brand new Sears Centre in Chicago, but lost their third straight game 5-3 to the Hounds. Sunday Elmira salvaged their weekend road trip by picking up a 5-4 shootout win over the Quad City Mallards in Moline, IL.

Even though the Jackals won Sunday, they dropped four points behind the Kalamazoo Wings and now sit in 3rd place in the Eastern Conference, 4 points behind the K-Wings, but with one game in hand. This week the Jackals will look to take care of business at home as they host the 1st Place Western Conference Fort Wayne Komets Friday and Saturday at First Arena. In the only meeting between the two teams on November 17th, the Komets steamrolled the Jackals 8-1, handing Elmira their worst defeat of the season.

Week 8 Game Results:

12/1/06 Elmira 2 @ Muskegon 1

Muskegon, MI - The Elmira Jackals came back from a 2-0 deficit but lost to the Muskegon Fury 3-2 Friday night at L.C. Walker Arena. Muskegon grabbed an early lead when Billy Collins found Dave Noel-Bernier in front of the net for a goal at 2:27 of the first period. The Fury peppers Elmira goaltender Kris Tebbs, out-shooting the Jackals 21-7 in the first period, but Tebbs was outstanding and denied all but one in the opening stanza. In the second period, the Jackals played with more energy and momentum, but still could not crack the armor of Muskegon goaltender Clayton Pool. Mike Watt doubled the Fury lead with a power play goal at 19:43, a mere 16.7 seconds left on the clock, assisted by Rustyn Dolyny and Philippe Plante. In the third period, newcomer Chanse Fitzpatrick redirected a shot from Dale Lupul for a power play goal, putting the Jackals on the board at 3:18 of the third period, assisted by Lupul and Scott Drevitch. The Jackals then tied the Jackal 2-2 when Scott Wray fired in his 12th goal of the season at 4:29, assisted by Yevgeny Lazarev. But Muskegon would regain the lead when Justin Coutu one-timed a back-door pass into the net from Dave Noel-Bernier at 9:41. Elmira tried to level the score again, but despite pulling Tebbs in the final 90 seconds, the Fury hung on for a 3-2 win. Clayton Pool earned his 13th win of the season, making 29 saves on 31 shots for Muskegon. Kris Tebbs was spectacular, stopping 39-of-42 in goal for the Jackals, but took the loss. 12/3/06 Elmira 5 @ Quad City 4 - (3-1 in Shootout)

Moline, IL - The Elmira Jackals won their 12th game of the season with a 5-4 shootout win over the Quad City Mallards Sunday afternoon at The MARK of the Quad Cites. In the opening period, Mallards leading scorer Chad Woollard opened the scoring at 8:32 assisted by Don Parsons and Andre Lupandin. Quad City took advantage of four straight minor penalties called against the Jackals as Don Parsons cashed in for a 5-on-3 power play goal at 12:29 assisted by Lupandin and Brett Pilkington and a 2-0 Mallards lead. Rookie forward David Morelli got the Jackals on the board with his 9th goal of the season at 14:50. Frank Littlejohn and Chanse Fitzpatrick combined for a beautiful passing display that ended with Morelli rifling a shot from the face off dot into the top shelf over the shoulder of Quad City goaltender Zach Sikich. But the Mallards regained their 2-goal lead just before the end of the period. Matt Radoslovich scored a back-door goal from Blake Stewart at 19:09, stalling Elmira's momentum shift late in the period. But the Jackals seemed undaunted by the late goal as they came out firing in the second period. Erik Anderson cut the Quad City lead to 3-2 with his 5th goal of the season at 6:50 assisted by Chris Mann and Scott Drevitch. Play opened up in the second period with both teams creating offense and featuring end-to-end action. The Jackals took advantage of a Quad City turnover to tie the game at three. Mark Scott stole the puck behind the Mallard net after defenseman Andrei Lupandin lost his footing behind the goal. Scott took a wrap-around shot that was blocked by Sikich, but Yevgeny Lazarev came away from the scramble in front with the puck and scored his 10th goal of the year at 18:25, leveling the game 3-3. The Jackals turned up their pressure in the second period, out-shooting the Mallards 20-12 in the middle stanza. The Jackals grabbed their first lead of the game as Frank Littlejohn bombed home a power play goal at 4:58 of the third period, assisted by Brent Cullaton and Tommy Kotsopoulos. The Jackals clung to their slim lead and almost had an insurance goal on several occasions, but they couldn't hold off the Mallards. After using their time out with a minute left in the game and pulling Sikich for 6th attacker, Quad City forward Don Parsons fired a shot that beat Kris Tebbs at 19:19, tying the game 4-4 and forcing a shootout. Elmira came out and demonstrated why they have an undefeated record in shootouts this season. Kris Tebbs was nearly perfect, stopping 3-of-4 attempts, allowing only one goal from Patrick Nadeau.
