Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings News Release

The Abilene Prairie Dogs salvaged the last game of a three-game series, with a 4-1 win and in doing so snapped a five game winning streak by the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings Saturday night at Harlingen Field.

A ninth inning rally by the local club fell short. The WhiteWings had two men on base, but with two outs. L.L. Borroso was put out on a play to first baseman for the final out.

The WhiteWings ( 6-5) again scored first when Miguel Alfonso hit a single, driving in Fidel Hernandez for a run in the third. But that ended the scoring for the WhiteWings.

The Prairie Dogs (4-7) scored in the fourth on a solo home run by Kyle Nichols, the first and only four bagger in the series. They added single runs in the fifth, eighth and ninth innings.

Starting pitcher Celson Polanco gave up the first run and gave up three hits in 4 2/3 innings, but ran into trouble, leaving the game with the bases loaded and two outs. Reliefer Erickson Bautista came in and Dog shortstop Wilson Batista flied out to center field.

The WhiteWings are idle both Sunday and Monday, the only two-game break of the season. Then they begin a four-game home series with the Edinburg Roadrunners.
