Abilene Prairie Dogs News Release

McALLEN, TX -- The Abilene Prairie Dogs have acquired right-handed pitcher David Slovak, designated hitter Levi Tapia, and third baseman Tylor Prudhomme. In addition, Abilene has activated outfielder Bryan Fogle from the inactive list.

To make room for the newcomers on the roster, the Prairie Dogs released Designated hitter Nick Ochoa and signed three players to the White Sands Pupfish of the PECOS League: relief pitcher Eric Schaler, outfielder K.C. Judge, and third baseman Jordan Marks.

Schaler, who has been with the club since opening day, pitched two-and-one-third innings out of the bullpen in three appearances. The righty gave up three hits, five runs, and seven walks while striking out one batter.

Ochoa, also an opening day member of the squad, began the season six-for-six with two doubles, a home run, two R.B.I., and four runs scored. The DH picked up three hits in his last 30 at-bats in an Abilene uniform without an extra base hit or an R.B.I.

Judge was acquired from the San Angelo Colts hours before the Prairie Dogs played in San Angelo on May 29. In 15 at-bats with Abilene, the Las Vegas, NV product collected six hits, walked twice, scored a run, drove in a run, and struck out five times.

Marks appeared in a Prairie Dogs' uniform for the first time on Friday. In six at-bats with the club, Marks did not collect a hit and struck out once.

As for the newcomers, Slovak is a 6'0", 170 lbs right-hander with an 11-9 record and a 3.35 career ERA in five minor league seasons. In five relief appearances with the Lincoln Salt Dogs in 2012, the Dayton, OH native has allowed 14 hits and five earned runs in six-and-one-third innings pitched.

Tapia is a 5'10", 200 lbs designated hitter who is a former 38th round draft pick of the Boston Red Sox in 2005. He spent the '06 and '07 seasons with the Red Sox rookie league affiliate. Tapia is from Denver, CO.

Prudhomme is a switch hitter at 5'11" and 155 lbs. From Ontario, CA, the 27-year-old is expected to play third base for Abilene.

Fogle last appeared for the Prairie Dogs on May 26. The right-handed hitting outfielder picked up two hits in his first six at-bats with a double, a run scored, and two runs driven in. In his next 10 plate appearances, the former Rays farm hand was hitless with a walk and six strikeouts.

After a two-day layoff, the Prairie Dogs resume the 2012 season with a 7:05 first pitch at Edinburg Stadium in the first of four games with the McAllen Thunder. Hear the game on KLGD 106.9 beginning with the pre-game show at 6:55.
