Powerful finish for the Salmon Kings

Victoria, BC - The Victoria Salmon Kings battled the Utah Grizzlies in the final game of the 2005/2006 season at the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre. Victoria capped of their second season with a 7-4 victory over the visitors.

The Salmon Kings struck first with a power play goal from Forward Seth Leonard. Taggart Desmet fed Leonard open in the slot and he scored his 12th goal of the season for the 1-0 lead.

Victoria added two more goals before the end of the first. Pat Sutton chipped the puck ahead to Ryan Wade to force a 2-on-1 breakaway for the Salmon Kings. Wade rifled a shot from the right circle to beat Netminder Justin Eddy. Adam Taylor scored his 57th point of the season on Victoria's second power play of the game. At 13:56 into the first, Wade found Taylor from behind the Utah net and he padded the lead to 3-0.

With 3:11 remaining in the third period, Utah marked the scoreboard in a 2-on-1. Colt King slid the puck across the crease to set up Garret Cameron for an easy tap in past B.J. Boxma.

Utah tied the score in the second within eight minutes. Travis Rycroft scored his 9th goal of the season and Ryan Kinasewich tallied his 39th goal of the season. Elias Godoy gave Victoria the lead 4-3 with the third Salmon Kings power play goal of the game. Wade tallied another assist finding Godoy on the opposite slot for the backhanded chip in.

The second period came to a close at a 4-4 tie, as with 2:19 left in the frame, Cameron popped in his second score of the game on a shot which deflected off a Salmon Kings defender.

The Salmon Kings scored the only goals of the third. Two more power play goals from Simon Mangos and Seth Leonard, and an open net goal from Steve Roberts rounded out the final stanza at the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre in front of 4775 fans. Desmet assisted on both power play goals.

Victoria was 5-6 on the power play, and Utah was held off the scoreboard in all five of their chances with the man advantage. Boxma posted his sixth win and of the season, and Eddy suffered his 18th loss of the season. Utah outshot Victoria 37-28.
