Power Split with Lexington Saturday

(Charleston, WV, May 18, 2013): The West Virginia Power split victories with the Lexington Legends in Saturday's doubleheader, winning game one 3-2 and falling 6-4 in game two. Game one saw Power pitchers combine for a one-hitter en route to victory.

In game one, Lexington had their only hit in the first inning, a two-run home run by Fred Ford. West Virginia responded in the bottom of the second when Stetson Allie hit his ninth home run of the season to cut the Lexington lead to 2-1.

The Power added their final two runs in the fifth inning. Eric Wood drew a leadoff walk and later scored on a Walker Gourley fielder's choice. Gourley scored the winning run on a two-out single by Junior Sosa.

Pat Ludwig (3-0) earned the win in relief by tossing three hitless innings. Tyler Glasnow pitched effectively in his start for the Power. The 19-year-old pitched four innings of one-hit ball and struck out eight Legends hitters. Dan Stumpf (3-1) took the loss for Lexington

The Legends scored two runs in the third inning of game two and added another run in the fourth. The Power responded by scoring two runs in the fourth to cut the lead to 3-2. Lexington responded in the fifth with three more runs to take a 6-2 lead. Francisco Diaz hit an RBI double in the sixth and Ashley Ponce added an RBI sacrifice fly to cap the Power scoring.

Aroni Nina (1-2) received the win for Lexington. John Kuchno (1-3) took the loss after allowing six earned runs on eight hits. West Virginia and Lexington will conclude their four-game series Sunday afternoon at Appalachian Power Park. Jake Burnette will make his home-debut for the Power and will be opposed by Legends' starter Brian Brickhouse. First pitch is scheduled for 2:05.
