Asheville Tourists News Release
Rome, GA--On Friday night, Asheville and Rome began Game Two of their four game series, but weather forced the action to be suspended and picked up on Saturday night. The score was 0-0 in the top of the fourth inning when play resumed. The Braves ended up with a 6-4 win but the Tourists bounced back with a 5-2 win in the second game of the evening.
Patrick Scoggin and Lucas Sims combined to retire the first 14 Tourists batters in Game One and the home team took a 6-0 lead into the ninth. Asheville showed signs of life by plating four runs in their last turn at bat. Dillon Thomas came to the plate as the game-tying run with two outs, but the outfielder flied out to deep left ending the contest.
Francisco Sosa finished 2-for-4 with a pair of RBI's for the Tourists and starting pitcher Shane Broyles tossed three scoreless frames. The Braves were led by Levi Hyams who finished 3-for-4 with two RBI's.
In game two, Eddie Butler earned his fifth win of the season by pitching six solid innings and limiting Rome to just two runs. Offensively, the Tourists were led by Kyle Von Tungeln. Asheville's designated hitter finished 3-for-4, scored two runs, and blasted a tape-measure Home Run in the fifth inning; his first long ball of the season.
Raul Fernandez worked a scoreless seventh inning to pick up his ninth save of the season. Asheville never trailed in the game and surpassed Rome in the crowded South Atlantic League Southern division standings with the night-cap victory.
The same two teams will wrap up the series on Sunday afternoon with the first pitch scheduled for 2:00 pm.
