Power Forward Tiffeny Milbrett Called Up For National Team Duty
October 16, 2002 - Women's United Soccer Association (WUSA)
New York Power News Release
New York, NY â New York Power forward Tiffeny Milbrett has been named to the 18-player U.S. Women's National Team roster by head coach April Heinrichs for the 2002 CONCACAF Women's Gold Cup, which will serve as the regional qualification tournament for the 2003 Women's World Cup in China. The USA, which begins Gold Cup play on October 27 against Mexico at the Rose Bowl, commences training camp at the ARCO U.S. Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, Calif. on Monday, October 21.
Milbrett, with 88 goals, is chasing 100 careers goals with the U.S. women, a milestone that would put her in the most exclusive club in international soccer as just four players have previously reached that mark.
The USA, which has been placed in Group 1 with Mexico, Trinidad & Tobago and Panama, needs to advance to the championship game on November 9 at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, Calif. to earn one of the two automatic berths afforded to the CONCACAF region. The U.S. will be training daily at the ARCO U.S. Olympic Training Center beginning Monday. A complete training schedule will be released shortly.
The Power, under new Head Coach Tom Sermanni, will wrap up their post-season playing the 2002 WUSA Champions, the Carolina Courage, on Oct. 19 in Charleston, SC. The game will be played at Blackbaud Stadium, home of the Charleston Battery, with a scheduled 3 pm kickoff.
